ACTINIC KERATOSIS
“Actinic= sun-related; “keratosis”= rough, thick skin. Up to 15% of these precancerous spots can turn into squamous cell carcinomas, so it is important to treat them. Therapies include liquid nitrogen, chemical peels, 5-Fluorouracil, diclofenac, imiquimod, and ingenol mebutate. Any actinic keratoses that recur after these treatments should be biopsied to evaluate for the presence of skin cancer.
