Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis (an allergic rash on the skin) is generally caused by external allergens. Although scratch tests and blood tests can be used to diagnose hay fever or asthma, patch testing is used to diagnose contact dermatitis. A standardized series of 36 tests is applied to the back on Day 1, removed 2 days later, and read 3 days later. The offending allergens can be avoided to decrease the risk of recurrence.
